High-speed thermal receipt printing is essential for fast customer checkout. TRAX POS supports industry-standard ESC/POS receipt printers connected via Network (Ethernet/LAN), USB, or Bluetooth.

1. Hardware Requirements #

  • Printer Type: Standard 80mm or 58mm ESC/POS compatible thermal receipt printer (e.g., Epson TM-T88, Bixolon, Star Micronics, Rongta, Xprinter).
  • Connection Interface: USB cable or an RJ45 Ethernet network cable connected to your local router/switch.
  • Thermal Paper Roll: 80mm (standard) or 58mm (compact).

2. Step-by-Step Configuration in TRAX POS #

  1. From the main sidebar menu, navigate to Settings ➔ Store Settings (or POS Hardware tab).
  2. Locate the Receipt Printer Configuration card:
    • Connection Type: Choose between Network Ethernet (LAN) or USB / Local Driver.
    • IP Address (For Network Printers): Enter the static IP address assigned to the printer on your local network (e.g., 192.168.1.150).
    • Port: Default is 9100 (standard raw print port for thermal network printers).
    • Paper Width: Select 80mm (default wide receipt) or 58mm (narrow receipt).
    • Auto-cut Paper: Toggle ON to trigger the guillotine paper cutter automatically after each bill.

3. Printing a Test Receipt #

  1. Ensure the printer has paper loaded and the power indicator shows steady green.
  2. Click the green Print Test Receipt button in the settings panel.
  3. The printer should immediately feed a test receipt reading:
    • TRAX POS - Connection Test: OK
    • Date, time, IP address, and sample barcode.
  4. Click Apply Changes to make this printer the default checkout printer.

4. Troubleshooting & Tips #

  • Printer does not respond: Ensure the terminal and the network printer are on the exact same subnet (e.g., both starting with 192.168.1.xxx).
  • Garbled or strange characters: Verify your printer code page settings. TRAX POS automatically transmits standard UTF-8 and PC437/CP864 character sets.
  • Paper cut not working: Verify that your printer model is equipped with an internal auto-cutter mechanism and the toggle is enabled in settings.
