02.3- Barcode Scanner & Electronic Cash Drawer Setup #
Connecting a physical barcode scanner and automatic cash drawer transforms your computer or tablet into an efficient, retail-ready checkout station.
1. Barcode Scanner Setup (1D & 2D QR Scanners) #
TRAX POS works seamlessly with all USB, Wireless Bluetooth, and Omnidirectional desktop scanners that support standard HID Keyboard Wedge Mode.
Configuration Steps: #
- Plug the scanner USB dongle or cable into your POS terminal. Windows will recognize it automatically without special drivers.
- In TRAX POS, navigate to Settings ➔ Hardware & Devices.
- Place your cursor into the Test Barcode Scanner field.
- Scan any retail product barcode. The numbers should appear instantly with a green confirmation badge:
Scanner Detected (HID Keyboard Mode).
Scanner Auto-Enter Note: Ensure your scanner is programmed to append a Carriage Return (Enter key) suffix after scanning. This allows TRAX POS to immediately add the scanned item to the active cart without manual clicks. (Refer to your scanner manual barcode sheet to scan the “Add Enter Suffix” code).

- By using the assigned hotkey (or executing a No-Sale transaction, logged in audit records).
