# PrintAgent Desktop Application & Background Service

Standard web browsers display a print confirmation preview dialog every time you print. To achieve true **silent, instant (0.1s) POS printing**, TRAX provides a dedicated Windows background service called **TRAX PrintAgent**.

---

### 1. Why Use TRAX PrintAgent?

- **Zero-Click Silent Printing:** Eliminates browser print dialogs; receipts print the instant you click "Pay".
- **Direct USB & Serial Hardware Control:** Communicates directly with local USB printer ports (`USB001`, `COM1`) that browsers cannot natively access.
- **Cash Drawer Pulse Control:** Directly triggers the RJ11 cash drawer kick-out signal.

---

### 2. Installation & Quick Setup

1. Download the **PrintAgent Installer** package from your store management portal (`PrintAgent/daemon`).
2. Run the installer as **Administrator** on your Windows POS terminal.
3. The setup registers a lightweight background service (`localprintagentservice.exe`) that starts automatically with Windows.
4. Open the PrintAgent status window from your system tray to verify:
   - **Service Status:** `Active & Running` (indicated by a bright green badge).
   - **Listening Port:** `8080` (or configured custom port).
   - **Web App Link:** Shows `Connected to TRAX POS Web App`.

### 3. Connecting TRAX POS to PrintAgent

1. Inside your TRAX POS browser window, go to **Settings** ➔ **Printers**.
2. Enable the **Use Local PrintAgent Service** toggle.
3. Leave the service URL as `http://localhost:8080` (or enter the IP of the PC sharing the printer if printing over the local network).
4. Select the target physical printer from the dropdown menu populated by the service (e.g., `EPSON TM-T88VI (USB001)`).
5. Click **Test Print via Agent**. A silent test receipt will print instantaneously!

---

### 4. Service Maintenance & Debugging

- **Status shows Disconnected:** Verify that your local antivirus or Windows Firewall is not blocking local port `8080`.
- **Restarting the Service:** In Windows, open `services.msc`, locate **TRAX Local PrintAgent Service**, and click **Restart**.
- **Log Inspection:** The live log console within the desktop window tracks every incoming print job ID and raw ESC/POS dispatch status.
